Farrier Report: Glushu for laminitis.

From Danny Wallbank.

“This is my client Remain.

Remain has suffered from laminitis for many years, I acquired her as a client due to her severe lami. Alongside this she has poor horn quality at the quarters, making nailing shoes on a tough task, but for the last 3 1/2 years I have still managed to keep her comfortable nailing heart bars on, until now.

I have previously used Glushu, but never for a laminitic case. With Glushu’s been a none invasive shoe, it seemed the perfect option as nailing is no longer an option. I used them along with a 3D pad by Jim Blurton for additional frog support.

I find applying Glushu’s very easy as the shoe is easy to shape(you don’t need to be scared of hitting it with a hammer, the rubber holds up well). As a farrier working by myself certain other non traumatic glue shoes can be difficult to do alone, but GluShu’s are very easy and manageable.

The horse has since (after 4 days) come sound and is feeling comfortable again. I believe this is due to not having to put nails through the poor horn at the quarters and removing the pressure of that area.

I would 100% recommend other farriers to use these shoes, they are easy to use, Apply and have a good working life span. I myself will be using them again.”
