Laminitis can be a heartbreaking condition for horse owners. It causes severe pain and limits a horse's ability to move freely. Finding effective treatments is crucial for enhancing their quality of life.Thank you to expert farrier Ronald Aalders who has successfully integrated Glushu into a comprehensive treatment plan for a horse struggling with laminitis.
From Ronald AAlders:
“Venograms are a great prognostic and diagnostic tool when laminitis strikes. They also show the main problem the vet-farrier treatment team faces in such cases:
1. How to improve the blood flow from the coronary plexus down (supplying blood to the sublamellar vessels, primary and secondary lamellae and of course Christopher Pollitt his base membrane, and the coronary papillae that make up the epidermal side of the lamellar bond)
2. How to get rid of the crushing force on the circumflex vessels by the coffin bone that (partly) lost it's connection to the hoof wall, as a result of which the hoof wall gets pushed up and away from the coffin bone. As the godfather of podiatry dr. R.F. Redden showed us many years ago, the answer lies in reducing DDFT pull.
The way to achieve that is to significantly reduce the forces needed for heel lift. The first and foremost effect is gained by significantly increasing the palmar angle of the coffin bone. For a number of reasons the EVA clogs like Cody Ovnicek sells are an effective tool to address the palmar angle of the coffin bone when laminitis strikes.
With improvement of that blood flow comes the next stage, in this case GluShu, allowing the horse to regain its life. Laminitis, we cannot save them all, but we can improve the numbers! #sigronpodiatry”
While laminitis is a complex condition, the approaches of expert farrier Ronald Aalders provide hope for change. By using Glushu alongside other treatment options, horse owners can expect better outcomes for their beloved animals.
